Back in September 2007, I noted that North Carolina State University’s D. H. Hill Library had set up a few game stations for their patrons’ enjoyment. At the time, they supported the Microsoft Xbox 360, the Nintendo Wii, and the Sony PlayStation 3. They’ve since added a Sony PlayStation 2 and a Microsoft Xbox, as well as a wide variety of games. What’s more, D. H. Hill’s Learning Commons website now includes an entire section dedicated to the thinking behind “Gaming in the Library.”
I look forward to watching NCSU’s game collection grow, and intend to look into helping on a volunteer basis.

There’s some public libraries getting in on the gaming trend, as well. Cameron Village Library, also in Raleigh, will soon be getting it’s very own Nintendo Wii along with Guitar Hero, Rock Band, and various party games. Exciting!

That’s awesome! Appreciate the info. I’ll make a point of getting over there to check it out…

Just in case anyone’s interested: I spoke with Joe Williams, Director of the Learning Commons, late last week. He mentioned that both Syracuse University and the Univerity of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign have similar spaces that also include games. Check them out at http://gamelab.syr.edu/ and http://www.library.uiuc.edu/gaming/, respectively.
