That’s right…the library. Specifically North Carolina State University’s D. H. Hill Library, the newly renovated East Wing of which features “Gaming Support.”
I stopped by the Learning Commons on 19 September 2007 to check it out.
Strolling right on by the Macs, PCs, and scanners, I sat down in a fancy desk chair next to some kid playing Wii Sports. He challenged me to a tennis match, but I’d been hoping to try Guitar Hero II on the Microsoft Xbox 360. I thought about laying my library card out like a quarter on an old arcade cabinet, but that seemed awful hostile considering I’d soon have to split for class.
At any rate, I’m thoroughly impressed by the bountiful selection NCSU librarians have provided. What’s more, I find it really heartening that campus officials make no attempt whatsoever to justify something lots of folks probably think is both completely inappropriate and a waste of time.
Thanks, NC State — it’s great to see a university library give gamers a little leeway.
